The US Water Infrastructure Crisis Part 2
Each year, the US has 240,000 water main breaks and loses 6 billion gallons of treated water from leaking pipes. There are 1 million miles of drinking water pipes that are well past their lifespan and need to be replaced. 15,498 dams have been identified as high hazard potential. And these are just a few of the alarming facts uncovered in the ASCE 2017 US Infrastructure Report.
Repairing our water systems benefits everyone. As said by the NUCA Legislative Director during the 2017 WASDA Annual Meeting, for every $1 investment in infrastructure, $3 is returned.
There are many ways make your voice heard and raise awareness about our country’s ongoing infrastructure crisis. You can contact your Senator directly and tell them how vital water infrastructure investment is to our future. You can also share facts about infrastructure from ASCE’s Report with those connected to you on social media.
WASDA also encourages members to participate in the 2017 NUCA Summit, which takes place from May 16-18, 2017. During this summit, you will be briefed on the top industry issues and visit with members of Congress. This is a chance to put a face to your Senator’s name and speak with them directly about the infrastructure issues they keep ignoring.
Stay tuned for part 3 of our infrastructure crisis installment, where we’ll inform you of all the ways to prepare for Water Infrastructure Week.
