WASDA Scholarship Fund

About the WASDA Scholarship:

The WASDA Scholarship is open to those students who are in their last year of high school and are the children of employees of member and associate companies of WASDA. As a prerequisite for eligibility, the applicant’s parents must be employed by a WASDA member and associate companies at the time the application is made. All eligible applicants will be considered without regard to race, sex, religion, or national origin. Scholarship applicants will be evaluated and the scholarship recipients will be chosen by an independent selection committee. The children of the selection committee are not eligible to apply during the committee member’s tenure.

Scholarship recipients will be selected based solely on objective standards related to the purpose of the scholarships and will not, except for initial eligibility requirements, be based on the employment of the applicant’s parents or the company’s line of business. The applicants will be evaluated on objective standards such as academic performance, performance on tests designed to measure ability and aptitude for higher education, and the candidate’s rank in school. Recommendations by instructors or other persons unrelated to the candidate, extra-curricular activities, and leadership contributions will also be considered.

Scholarship recipients are free to select any course of study that they may choose and accordingly may pursue their educational studies solely for their personal benefit. Preference will be given to those who seek studies in the following areas: engineering (civil, mechanical, software), business management including finance and accounting and industrial distribution.

Scholarship winners can renew their scholarship for three additional years should they continue meeting the requirements of maintaining a 3.0 or higher.

The WASDA Scholarship Board of Directors will also assume the duties of the selection committee.  To ensure anonymity of the applicants, the last name and company affiliations are redacted from the application before the selection committee can review them.  The selection committee will use a rubric to rate applicants based on criteria set forth above to aid in the award process.

Support the WASDA Scholarship Fund

Anyone wishing to make a contribution is invited and encouraged to do so! Contributions can be made to either one or both of the scholarships: the WASDA Scholarship and/or the Matt Stager Memorial Scholarship. Contributions can be made using this contribution form. All donations are fully tax deductible.

In 2015, WASDA began offering two scholarships through the WASDA Scholarship Fund. The WASDA Scholarship is available to the children of all WASDA member companies (both Distributor and Associate). Additionally, WASDA will continue to offer educational funding to the children of Distributor members through the Matt Stager Memorial Scholarship. Both scholarships are renewable up to four years, should the students meet GPA requirements. Both scholarships will award multiple students each year; the number of available scholarships will depend on the number of applications in that given year.  Note that individuals may apply to both scholarships but can only be awarded one of the scholarships.

The WASDA Scholarship Fund would like to thank the Founding Donors of the Fund.

About the Matt Stager Memorial Scholarship:

The Matt Stager Memorial Scholarship Fund was established pursuant to the request of the family of the late Matt Stager, one of WASDA’s past presidents. The Stager family desired to provide assistance to children of employees of WASDA Distributor member companies in order that they are afforded an opportunity to achieve their higher education goals.

How do I Renew My Scholarship?

The WASDA Management Team will make every effort to contact winners who are eligible for renewal in the Spring of each year. However, sometimes the contact information that we have on file is no longer valid. It is the responsibly of each student to submit their most recent college transcript noting their GPA for consideration by the Selection Committee. Students should aim to have their transcripts sent to WASDA Headquarters (via email or USPS) by June 15 of each year. As a reminder, the Scholarship is renewable up to four years based on maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher.
